Making a Mealworm Feeder

I have often been asked how to make a feeder for mealworms and recently was reminded in an email from one of the regular diary watchers.  I promised to try and have detailed instructions posted by Christmas 2003 so here we are!
Firstly here is a list of the materials that you will need:-

1.) A piece of wood which should be between 42 and 50cms long.  It should be between 8 and 15mm in thickness and 7 to 10cm wide.

I have used a new piece of wood that I bought especially at Focus DIY which was 2.2 metres and cost about £4.50.  It is 70mm by 8mm. From this, I could make 3 or 4 feeders.

2.) An empty, two litre pop bottle.

3.) A tape or ruler.

4.) Some wood glue, nails and a couple of small hooks or eyes complete the materials list.

This picture shows most of the materials and tools that you may need.

The tools that I used were:-

A saw for cutting the wood to the correct length. (Tenon or junior hacksaw)
A coping or jig saw to cut the arches on the end pieces.
A hole cutter for the entrances
A pair of scissors and a craft knife to cut the plastic.
A staple gun to fix the plastic sheet.
