Annual
Fun
Shoot
30th September, 2007
|
As is our
custom, we ended our official outdoor competition season
with a fun shoot.
The format for
this year was for all members to shoot a Short Warwick round
consisting of two dozen arrows at 50 yards and another two
dozen at 40 yards. However, to make things a little more
interesting, all archers with a handicap of 40 or less shot
at an 80cm face and everyone else shot at a full-size face.
To make it even more difficult, the Bowmen were only allowed
to score up to the blue ring. Blacks and whites
counted as misses.
We organised three teams of seven archers with the Chairman
standing down so as to act as arbiter.
Teams and scores are listed below.

| After the
round, the faces were removed and three bosses were
decorated with identical patterns of twelve balloons.
Each archer started with ends three arrows and, in turn,
they tried to burst as many as possible. Once all team
members had shot their two ends of three arrows, the 'dead'
balloons were removed and the process repeated.
At the end of two complete
rounds, Team One had burst 9 balloon; Team Two eleven and
Team Three had burst ten. Ten points were awarded for
each one that had been burst. This made the scores as
follows:-
Team One 1680; Team Two 1961 and Team Three 2040
The score sheets were given to
the Webmaster to total. He then passed them to the
Records' Officer to check. They were then handed to the
Chairman who assumed that the scores were correct.
Next, after a short break, it was time to execute the
Chairman in the usual manner.
The club owns a working guillotine with which to execute an
effigy of the Chairman. It is triggered an arrow smashing a disk
made of plaster of Paris which is attached to the boss. This is
linked by a cord to the blade which is held in the 'UP'
position. Once smashed, the blade falls and
decapitates the effigy of the Chairman.
Each member began shooting three arrows until everyone had
shot six.
The blade fell for Nathan, Ron, Mark, Graham and David
Cochlin.
After clearing the field, the
Chairman announced the results and presented the winning
team with boxes of sumptuous chocolate biscuits.
Whilst loading the car, the Chairman was approached and
asked to check the scores. He found that an error had
been made by the Record's Officer and the Webmaster.
He was quick to offer his apology to the members who had
requested a recount and explained that he would make good
the prizes and present them to the true Champions on the
following Sunday.
The Webmaster and Record's Officer would foot the bill!
There was also a new trophy which was presented for the
first time this year. It was made and presented to the
club by Stuart and his wife and was in the form of a
miniature washing line with petticoats hanging from it.
It was awarded to the person who had obtained the most
petticoats. This was Graham with five!
New club records were shot by the following archers:-
Phillip for Junior Boys Under 16; Nathan for Junior
Boys Under 14; Jess for Junior Girls Under 16 and Stuart for
Longbows. |

We had a lovely day for shooting.
It was warm with some sunshine and a gentle breeze. There were
some excellent scores. In fact thirteen out of the twenty-two
archers shot above their handicaps. Nathan shot a new club
record for his age group and Jess shot a First Class round with her
new bow. She had no sight marks and so missed with her first
six arrows.
The new members all shot really well. Lloyd shot his second
qualifying score for a third class archer.
Once again, Chris Brown shot well and was top scorer by two points
over Dave Cochlin.
During the presentation, the Chairman handed out certificates from
the Dyfed Archery Association for new County Records that had been
claimed by club archers. Robyn received five (Short Metric
III; Portsmouth; Junior Windsor; Bristol IV and St. Nicholas) and
Stuart scooped eight for his prowess with a longbow (Long National;
New National; York; Hereford; Western; St. George and Gents FITA).
Congratulations to both archers. |

| There were some excellent results for
this competition, especially from the newer members of the club.
Lloyd was shooting in his first competition and shot a third class
round. Jess shot well above her handicap to achieve her first
First Class score. Ann decided to try the long distance round
and shot above her handicap.
The Gents had a very close
result. Chris and Tony were on the same target which must have added
some pressure.
Robyn excelled herself with her new bow and beat her own Dyfed
County and Club record score by over 40 points. She also had
three six-gold-ends at the shortest distance and walked off with
much of the Club silverware! |

Here is Robyn with her trophy for winning the
Welsh Archery Association Championships with a new Dyfed County Record
score.
This was one of her ends of 6 arrows at the 20yard distance at our club
Championship shoot.
