The Annual
Club Championships, 2009
Rounds Shot:- Nationals |
| At last, we had a reasonable forecast
but, on arriving at the club, we found that most members believed
that we were going to shoot the National Rounds which were arranged
at the AGM. There was a hurried Committee Meeting between the
Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Field Captain who decided that
it would be sensible, on this occasion, to incorporate the Club
Championships with the National Rounds. This was agreed and so
we prepared for Senior Gents to shoot a New National; the Senior
Ladies to shoot a New National; the Juniors would shoot either
according to their age group or, if the distance was beyond them, a
shorter round. |

| There were some excellent results for
this competition, especially from the Junior members of the club.
Nathan Abram's score was very close to a Junior Bowman score.
Joe Ford, who now shoots a longbow, shot
an excellent First Class
score of 247. The qualifying score for First Class is 156 so
he was way above that! Nathan Scott shot a Second Class score
in his first competition and Ben and Kieran both shot Third Class
scores. Once again, Gordon has shown that he continues to
improve by taking the Handicap Award. Although we had a few
short showers, they didn't interrupt the shooting. |

We had a lovely day for shooting.
It was warm with lots of sunshine and a gentle breeze. There were
some excellent scores. Six out archers shot above their
handicaps.
The new members all shot really well. Kieran shot close to a
second class score in his first round at 60 yards. Nathan Abrams
shot a Junior Bowman score and Nathan Scott was very close to a
First Class score with a very good Second Class one.
Dave Cochlin shot well and was top scorer. He just missed
making 600. Ben Simpson, shooting a Junior National Round in his first tournament, scored
213. This is a
good Third Class Score. Unfortunately, he could not be
included in the overall result as he was shooting over a shorter
distance. |

| Once again we were very lucky
with the weather but, in spite of good conditions and a
short distance round, only three archers managed to shoot
above their handicaps. The winning team (Team D) all
won a tin of chocolates. |
