We had a beautiful sunny and
hot day so there were no excuses for good scores.
However, Gordon was the only archer who shot better than his
handicap. The highlight of the day was a six-gold-end
for Ben. It was his first at 40 yards and now he
qualifies for a G.N.A.S Six Gold Badge and an honourable
mention in the Archery UK magazine.
Sue's score was another First Class Barebow classification
and Chris was just a few points short of another Barebow
Bowman score.

Rain was forecast for the
whole day but at the start time, it was grey but dry so
shooting took place. The wind was gusting and there
was the occasional light drizzle which hampered good scores.
Nevertheless, scores were comparable to last year.
Once again Ben, who recently won the County Championships
for his age group, proved too good for the senior archers.
He was the only one that managed to tame the conditions and
shoot better than his handicap. Another of our County
Champions, Ray Harris was second with Tony Gibby third.
With so few archers shooting, the Field Captain, Dave
Cochlin, suggested shooting as one detail. This meant
that the whole round was completed by 3 o'clock and
presentation completed by 3.30. Well done to all who
shot for braving the conditions.

There were some excellent results for
this competition. Tony McIntosh shot a Bowman score and Ben,
who was using a new bow bought just one day before the tournament,
shot to his handicap. Gordon Summers shot well above his
handicap to take third place overall and the Handicap
Trophy. The worst white was also a very close race with Ray
Harris just a millimetre from beating Sue! Similarly, the Best
Gold was
close with David Cochlin one millimetre closer than Tony McIntosh.

| It was agreed that the competitors could choose their own National Round. The choices were a National, Long National or New National. The weather was not at all good with quite heavy showers during the afternoon. In spite of that, seven stalwart archers shot their rounds. Chris Clarkson, a new member this year, shot his second 3rd class score which was also a personal best to win his first trophy and medal. |
