Also at Christmas, Pop would don his hooded red coat with white fur trim, his Wellingtons and a long white beard, that he had made from coarse string. He would carry a sack over his back and be the Father Christmas for the young children at Dave's school. He performed this duty at the children's parties and the annual Christmas Fair for over 20 years and always looked forward to it.
He once went to a tramps' supper and
was turned away! They believed that he was the real thing. This costume
almost got him thrown out of Bill's pub when he was seen as an uninvited
guest. He had lovingly and convincingly made the costumes himself.
